5 out of 5 starsHello dear Kessler team, I wanted to thank you all so much for allowing me to fulfill my dream of getting my motorcycle license at my age (63). You're a fantastic team, whether in Herne, Essen, or Gelsenkirchen. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful! I was able to complete the theory test quickly, and then Georg had to put back a few of the cones I'd knocked over with the motorcycle. Georg, I had so much fun with you!! You were calm, competent, helpful, and fun. We two old-timers rocked it! Thank you so much for everything. That was probably the last test I'll ever have to take in my life. Best regards and a big thank you also to Julian and Malte!! I can highly recommend getting your license at the Kessler driving school to everyone, young or old. Until next time, Best regards, Michael Heming

4 out of 5 starsI got my Class A license there, and the driving instructor is very competent. Overall, I liked everything, but one negative point was that instead of asking me beforehand if I was available that day, they simply scheduled a test date for me without even asking.

A driving school in Gelsenkirchen with a family history
Fahrschule Kessler is a family business through and through: founded in 1973 and now run by the third generation. In Gelsenkirchen you'll find us at Kirchstraße 42, 45888 Gelsenkirchen. Across all our branches we help more than 1,000 learner drivers get their licence every year. You benefit from that experience when your training starts here.
Do you live closer to the Erle district? Then our second Gelsenkirchen branch on Cranger Straße may be nearer for you.

Licence classes: from car to bus
With class B you drive a car, from 18 or from 17 with accompanied driving. If you've been driving for a long time, code 196 (B196) also lets you ride 125 cc bikes – from age 25 and after at least five years of holding class B. Motorcycles come in stages: A1 from 16, A2 from 18 and the unrestricted class A from 24 – or from 20 if you've held A2 for two years.
For trucks (C/CE) the minimum age is 21, for buses (D) it is 24; as part of professional driver training it is 18 and 21 respectively. Both require class B and a medical certificate.
How to get started in Gelsenkirchen
For every class you need an eye test and a first-aid course. Your licence application goes to the road traffic office – we hand in the paperwork for you. You attend theory lessons at the branch; the theory schedule shows which topics are coming up when. Once you're ready, you take the theory and practical exams with TÜV Nord. You can sign up on site on Kirchstraße or conveniently online.
