5 out of 5 starsIch möchte mich ganz besonders bei meinem Fahrlehrer Heinz-Günter bedanken! 😊🚗❤️

4 out of 5 starsMy experience with the Kessler driving school was mixed overall. The receptionist was always very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the theory lessons, as I didn't attend them myself. What bothered me, however, was the long wait for a practical driving test appointment. It took quite a while for me to get a test date. I usually had my manual transmission lessons and the test with driving instructor Stefan. I had very good experiences with him – in my opinion, he's a really good driving instructor, patient and competent. Unfortunately, I didn't have such good experiences with other instructors. Overall, I would especially recommend Stefan as a driving instructor. However, I see room for improvement in the organization and the waiting times for the test.

Driving school in Essen at Limbecker Platz
Fahrschule Kessler has been based in Essen for many years. You'll find us at Limbecker Platz 11a, 45127 Essen. Behind the branch is a family business founded in 1973 and now run by the third generation. Across all locations we help more than 1,000 learner drivers get their licence every year.
Open in the mornings too
The Essen branch opens twice a day, Monday to Friday: from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00. If you have time in the mornings – for example because of shift work, university holidays or parental leave – you can come by early in the day. After the lunch break we're back at 15:00, so there's still time for a visit after work. For a detailed conversation, arrange a free consultation in Essen.
Personal support in Essen
Everyone who signs up in Essen gets a dedicated training consultant. That way you have one person from the start who knows where you stand and steps in when something gets stuck – whether it's about appointments, documents or exam preparation. This person stays the same, from your first theory lesson to the day of your exam. The bosses also regularly look in at Essen. Our app shows you at any time what you've already learned and paid.
Which class suits you?
The classic is class B: driving a car from 18, with accompanied driving from 17. For two-wheelers there are three stages – A1 from 16, A2 from 18 and A from 24, or from 20 after holding A2 for two years. If you've had your car licence for at least five years and are 25, the B196 extension also lets you ride light motorcycles up to 125 cc.
For a career on the road, there's the C/CE truck licence and the D bus licence. They require class B and a medical certificate; the minimum age is 21 and 24 respectively, or 18 and 21 as part of professional driver training.
Theory and practice in Essen
First come the eye test and first-aid course – you need both for every licence class; for the application you'll also need a biometric passport photo. After you sign up, your application goes to the road traffic office, and we hand in the papers for you. You attend theory lessons with us at the branch – the current theory schedule is online. You can sign up directly at Limbecker Platz or via our online registration.
